Georgie & Mark

It was a rare crisp, cold and dry New Year’s eve morning in North Devon, we arrived to photograph the wedding preparations at the Bride’s house, situated just above the Torridge river. We were greeted by the barks of dogs & joyful laughter of the bridesmaids getting ready. As the bride tried to save her voice (from too much singing over the Christmas period) I used my documentary style to capture her surrounded by the festive spirit that was to be echoed throughout the day. Photographing the wedding dress hung up by the Christmas tree, the cats asleep on the tinsel covered stairs, the glitter, sequins and sparkles adorned on everything, all with wintery rolling green hills in the background. Wedding photography in North Devon during the winter isn’t always wind & rain.

The ceremony & reception took place at Beaconside House just down the river from Bideford. The Bride & Groom ran a successful local coach company, so the driveway was full to the edges with classic old Rolls Royce cars, neatly matching the royal blue velvet of the groomsmen and shining glitz that was the wedding theme- Casino Royale. The cars were to make for some fantastic Vogue style bride & groom glamour shots, with Georgie gracefully perched by the front wheel wrapped in her veil.

As the natural light disappeared mid afternoon, most of the wedding day was to be photographed using off camera flash, meaning I could take some really creative group shots outside, even utilising the fairy lights in the trees. The big finale- well it’s not New Year’s Eve without some fireworks! Night time photography is always a great challenge, working with bursts of light that are there for only a moment and gone forever, all whilst capturing the look of love & joy on couple’s faces.

Georgie & Mark were aware their guests & staff were giving up their New Year’s Eve, so they were going to show them all a great time and throw one hell of a party…they did just that, and I was very honoured to photograph the day and entrance into their first New Year as a married couple.
