Rachel & Phil

A Family ‘Surf’ style Beach wedding in Devon- this was Rachael & Phil’s big dream for their special day. When searching for their Devon wedding photographer, Phil actually looked for a North Devon surf photographer instead, and luckily for him, I specialise in both surf and wedding photography. So after our initial chat, I created a bespoke price package that included a pre-wedding surf shoot involving the whole family.

The morning of the wedding arrived, and in true family fashion, everyone got ready together in the Penthouse Apartment of Saunton Sands Hotel. On the top floor the views out to the beach below were truly spectacular. With Bridesmaids and Paige boys in tow, it was down to the Hotel where the wedding ceremony would take place.

The wedding guests arrived late morning, and after a few pre-wedding drinks at the Hotel Bar, were escorted to the Art Deco style lounge, at the quiet end of the Hotel. With sunlight beaming through the tall windows, glimpsing at the wild wonder that lay beyond, the couple said their vows to each other.

Then it was out on the lawn of the Hotel grounds for champagne & snacks. Guests tucked into ‘Fun sized’ fish & chips in rustic paper cones, and kids squealed excitedly whilst playing on the grass under the sun, with seagulls squawking and waves crashing in the distance.

For the Bride & Groom portraits, we headed down to the beach and this is where we took a mixture of natural and posed shots. Utilising the colourful seaside huts, the surfers in the background, reflections of the wet sand, and even the grimy slime covered steps by the wetsuit showers (by the grooms request!) there is beauty everywhere and in everything, it’s just how you look to find it.

The Beachside Grill, is the local cafe for all beachgoers right at the entrance to Saunton Sands- this chilled out surf cafe, was exactly what Rachel & Phil were looking for to host their relaxed wedding reception. Laden with heavy wooden beams and white washed walls this really was the epitome of a beach wedding shindig with style!
