Drew McDonald Photography is a combination of all the different aspects of my work. I am very passionate about my photos and could never choose a discipline in which to solely follow. I am constantly surrounded with incredible landscapes in both the mountains and the coast. I love interacting with people. Bringing out emotions, within a portrait shoot, is an amazing experience. Immersing myself in a ‘couples wedding day’, capturing all those moments you know they will cherish for a lifetime. These are the things that drive me and make me happy!
So, a little bit about me as a person. I was fortunate enough to go to a secondary school that had photography as a subject for both GCSE and A-level. I knew from there that all I wanted to be when I grew up was a photographer! At university I qualified with a BA (Hons) in Photo Media Design from Plymouth College of Art and Design. From there I went straight to work as a family studio portrait photographer. After a couple of years in a studio and I was ready to see the world!
My first stop was New Zealand, where I first fell in love with the mountains and first learnt to snowboard. I knew this addiction wouldn’t go away and that has led to me spending every winter in the snow, visiting a number of countries but finally making Chamonix my winter home.
My summer home is the North Devon beach town, Woolacombe. This quaint little village hosts some great quality surf beaches and with the beaches come the tourists. I am currently in collaboration with a local surf school, Hunter Surf, to photograph their clients and events. Woolacombe offers me a great base in order to set up my wedding company. With easy access to the South West, Bristol and South Wales I have a large area in which I can photograph weddings.
This portfolio site will showcase my current work and projects, share techniques and knowledge and enjoy meeting and interacting with other photography enthusiasts as well as professionals.
